BirthdayDanny Neyman
“Birthday” is a diaristic concert, a duet between Danny Neyman and Hila Gluskinos, for harp, guitar, and two voices. An ongoing practice of non-fiction morning writing provides the text material for the piece. The work examines how the intimacy of such written materials responds to the public context of music and performance, and how two collages of broken monologue inhabit the same space of listening. The texts touch on questions of birth, memory, dreaming, sloth, love and family, in a time and place of ongoing disaster. In an attempt to create a space for different forms of listening, the work searches for lines of flight of gentleness and hope in the midst of a reality that seems determined to sadden and horrify.
