Diver Festival will open with a day of activities by “The School of the City” at Liebling Haus. Eight years after its founding, and within a crumbling reality, we’ll gather for a moment of reflection and celebration around this endeavor — moving between practice and thought, and seeking to develop performative forms of learning through which to think about the body, presence, and space. Over the course of the day, three separate events will take place: a talk, a tour, and a performance. Registration is required for the talk and the tour; admission to the performance is free.

The events are part of the exhibition Everything We’ve Learned So Far, which presents events, educational activities, thoughts, ideas, and practices developed by the artist-educators working at the School of the City since its opening at Liebling Haus in 2017.

Event Schedule:

Everything We’ve Learned So Far
A talk

17:30-19:30

In the salon of the exhibition Everything We’ve Learned So Far, we will facilitate a fluid, poetic, and engaging talk. A committed and adventurous talk in which space, form, and content co-emerge into a moment where the act of learning becomes an act of art. The exhibition features a round bench (to sit on), a video art cinema, a cross-vaulted chamber, a studio, and an avocado field. Each of these spaces offers an opportunity to experience our surroundings as sites of presence, observation, and learning. They are all exhibits that have emerged from the interaction between learning and material, shaped by our shared experience. The exhibition and its events showcase eight years of learning at the School of the City, located at Liebling Haus. The school has evolved into a performative space for learning that engages body and space. A group of artists and creators who both teach and learn through classes, workshops, and courses, develop practices that emphasize space and aesthetics, offering them for research and action for everyone.

Participants: The School of the City, Diver Festival, Liebling Haus, guests, and audience.

Practicing Space
Performative Tour
20:00-20:30

A performance piece offering a live practice of the body in space, creating an ongoing dialogue between human presence and architecture. Over the years, at the School of the City, A series of scores for inhabiting space has developed. These scores are designed to enable a deep engagement with new environments while refining the way we observe and understand them. Space and our presence within it form a single entity.  This series of exercises sharpens that understanding and establishes a reflective space where performance meets architecture. Learning space does not require a new skill set but rather an expansion and deepening of our perception of the surrounding environment. It heightens our sensitivity to light, material, and the range of sensations they evoke in us. Through these scores, we cultivate a profound spatial awareness, allowing us to familiarize ourselves with the spaces we inhabit, move through them freely, act within them comfortably, illuminate them effectively, or in other words – learn to love them.
The performance consists of a collection of scores that dictate the sequence of actions, allowing them to transform into images. The spaces, in response to the actions unfolding within them, function within the spectrum between real and imagined space.

Performers: Maayan Mozes Platnic and Tal Alperstein.

Everything We've Learned So Far is an exhibition that merges the worlds of architecture, design, art, and performance. It presents events, educational actions, thoughts, ideas, and practices developed by the artist-educators of the School of the City since its founding at the Liebling Haus in 2017.

The School of the City offers each participant learning based on direct experience. We explore our relationships with the spaces and environments we inhabit by cultivating a renewed awareness of our presence within them. The school’s programs are based on practices of observation, inquiry, talks, and critical thinking. Through these practices, we collectively develop a sensitivity to the spaces in which we act and to the ways in which those spaces shape our lives and our sensations.

Curatorial team: Eran Eizenhamer, Tal Alperstein, Michal David, Rotem Volk, Maayan Mozes, Maya Kramer
